BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – Holy Cross senior running back Peter Oliver was named Patriot League football’s varsity athlete of the year in addition to being selected for the third time to the 16-member Patriot League varsity team when the League announced the honors on Wednesday.
The Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Academic All-Patriot League Teams honor student-athletes who excel on and off the field. The awards are nominated and voted on by the directors of football sports information for the Patriot League. To be eligible for the College Athlete of the Year award and the Academic League of Patriots team, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.20 and be a beginner or a key player. in his sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

Five join varsity league club three times Elite
Oliver is joined by Fordham senior linebacker Ryan Greenhagen (business administration, 3.834 GPA), senior offensive lineman Nick Zakelj (finance / media management, 3.656 / 3.390 GPA), Georgetown graduate student defensive back Ahmad Wilson (finance, operations and information management, 3.61 / 3.88 GPA) and fifth year linebacker Lafayette Major Jordan (engineering, 3.63 GPA) in the exclusive group of 14 student-athlete members of Patriot League football to win the honor three times. Will Gruber (psychology, 3.64 GPA) and Lehigh senior wide receiver Austin Dambach (finance, 3.95 GPA) made the college All-League squad for the second straight season.

Eight Patriots League first team winners have been named to the Patriots University League squad, including Holy Cross junior linebacker Jacob Dobbs (economy, 3.68 GPA), defensive player of the year of the League. Oliver, who led the League in rushing yards, was also honored with the first team, along with Gruber, who took first team honors as a defensive back and returns specialist. Bucknell placed two first-time varsity winners on the squad with junior security Brent Jackson (finance, 3.73 GPA) and senior wide receiver Dominic Lyles (international relations, 3.61 GPA). Fordham graduate student Deondre Carter (visual arts / media management, 3.393 / 4.00 GPA) and senior running back RaShawn Allen (electrical engineering, 3.75 GPA) secured a spot on the academic team for the first time, with Anderson, Barclay, Braasch, Dobbs and Olivas.
