WILLEMSTAD- The first more than 4 million guilders of the hundreds of millions that went up in smoke in government entities under the cabinet Schotte (MFK) can be recovered. The court ordered the accounting firm Jourdain and the director/owner Henri Jourdain to reimburse the claims unjustly paid by the Stichting Buro Zieketekostenregeling (BVZ).
If it had been up to Health Minister Dorothy J. Pietersz-Janga Jourdain, she could have kept the money. She instructed the liquidators of BZV to withdraw the lawsuit against the accountant and the members of the board of directors of the foundation. She did so at a time when one could conclude from an interlocutory judgment that the claims would almost certainly be granted. Pietersz-Janga was nevertheless allowed to remain with her party and coalition partner, the PNP.
The liquidators did not apply the minister’s instruction and this is now working in favor of the national treasury. The court will issue a judgment against the BZV directors at a later date. The foundation would have been disadvantaged for a total of at least 10 million guilders. During Schotte’s time – himself convicted of corruption, among other things – party supporters were appointed to the boards of government entities that escaped the oversight of the Financial Supervisory Board.
